How to Remove Odors from Automotive Air Conditioning
There are three general methods to eliminate odors from a car’s air conditioning system:
1. Regular treatment with air conditioning deodorant
This method is quite simple. You can buy automotive air conditioning deodorant online. First, start the car and let it idle. Then, remove the air filter and spray the deodorant into the blower. Next, turn the air conditioning fan to maximum speed and set the temperature to the lowest level. Let the system run for 10 minutes, and the process is complete. As for the effect, it is only relatively moderate, because the deep-seated mold in the air conditioning evaporator cannot be easily removed.
2. Remove and clean the evaporator
The air conditioning evaporator is located inside the dashboard cover in front of the passenger seat. Few people would choose to remove it, as the process is extremely cumbersome and requires a major overhaul. You should only take this step as a last resort. Even a slight error during reinstallation will inevitably lead to abnormal noises.
3. Cleaning with an endoscope
A commonly used method is cleaning with an endoscope spray tube. Essentially, the cleaning fluid spray tube is attached to the endoscope lens. Through the endoscope, you can see the position of the spray tube and spray the cleaning fluid accurately. The entire cleaning process takes a relatively long time, usually about 1 hour. Although this method is not as thorough as removing and cleaning the evaporator, it delivers good results because it allows precise, targeted spraying of the cleaning agent.
