Texas Instruments has announced the industry's first floating switch architecture to simplify off-line LED linear drives for fixtures, fixtures and fixtures. The AC switch matrix technology supports the TITPS92411 floating-point MOSFET switch and is an innovative solution that produces low ripple LED drive currents without the use of magnetic components. The architecture is perfectly compatible with legacy wall dimmers, high power factor, and low total harmonic distortion (THD).
The reverse, buck and boost converters are common switch-mode power supply (SMPS) topologies in current LED luminaires. These circuits operate at high frequencies and require inductor components to convert the power AC current to the DC constant required to drive the LED. Inductors and transformers used for power transmission are more complicated to choose from and often require expensive custom components. In addition, electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters containing 4 to 10 passive components are required to prevent the SMPS circuit from damaging other electronic devices. For phase dimming, you may also need to design iterations multiple times to optimize dimmer compatibility and prevent LED flashes.
The TITPS92411's floating switch architecture addresses these challenges by eliminating the need for a wide range of inductive components for power transfer, saving cost and space while simplifying design. Click here to watch the video.
The TPS92411 belongs to the TILED driver family, which includes the TPS92075, LM3447, and LM3445.
